Since my focus is the mobile office, I think about mobility. I know the joys and efficiencies of being able to interact with people from wherever I am and at whatever time I need choose. It's great to be able to be in touch and be mobile! But I've never been inclined to engage in texting while driving, while actually rolling down the road while I'm in the driver's seat.

Is it just me? Tell me, texters, is it that hard to stop texting while driving or are these people who text while driving just not thinking? Whenever I hear of somene texting and driving--and it's usually in the context of a catastrophic accident--I'm utterly amazed that anyone would even try this.

Once again, Mark is on top of goodies for the mobile office. While Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 is still in beta, you might read Mark's article and get a heads up on what it to come. This version is designed for mobile phones and I know many of you all will be interested in it.

So how *do* you handle the holidays when your employees are mobile or virtual? Having everyone come in from afar to dock with the mother ship and have a rolicking holiday party might be a blast, but it could also be logistically difficult and very expensive, depending upon how far they have to come. If you cannot have an actual face-to-face with your entire team at this time of year, do you do something else as a team to celebrate the season?

If you've got a holiday tradition that works for your mobile team, share it with the community. There are a lot of teams that are looking for something that works.

And hey -- season's greetings to all of you :)

Mark has given us a great article: "The Trend in Smartphones" (located in the Knowledge Exchange or try the link below). I, for one, will admit a deep lack in my information about mobile phones and I think Mark has done us a great service by writing this article. I had to laugh when he mentioned that Maxwell Smart's size 9 shoe was the big thing when we was a kid - I remember that show and was captivated when Smart took off his shoe and began talking - what modern technology (for then).

I hope you will find the information in this article interesting and informative, I did! Thanks, Mark - now to get Maxwell Smart's shoe out of my thoughts....lol.

I was talking to a neighbor this morning who recently started working from home, and one of the things he comments on was how much *more* productive he is, now that he's a mobile worker.

That's certainly been my experience. While, yes, you lack the comeraderie of an office when working in the mobile/virtual mode, you can also lack the interruptions. That makes it much easier to use your time to get your work done.

What's been your experience? Do you find you're more productive? Or, have you found the opposite?

WOW, I attended my first webinar this week (I know, I know.....I live in the dark ages) but since then my head has been whirling with all the possibilites that this technology offers! Those who work remotely or have a mobile office and seldom get to the 'main' office, this tool can improve communications, plus the ability of most webinars to share comments is just mind boggling to me. See, I have already mentioned that I have just entered the real world.

Somehow I thought webinars would be like power point presentations.....lots of sitting quietly and trying to stay awake. But the extra ability to engage one another in conversation lifts this technology up a notch or two. I guess you all have figured out that I am now a cheerleader for webinars? It's true - just think of all the various ways they can be used!!!

Now you experienced webinar attendees and presenters, let me hear from you: pros? cons?

Mark A.R. Mitchell raises the question of the Call Center being a virtual one. What? A Virtual Call Center??? Why not? Read his article, found in the Knowledge Exchange, "Expanding the Virtual Office With a Virtual Call Center".

I was talking to a friend this morning who does a lot of work at the intersection of corporate management and philanthropy and she pointed out that a great way for a mobile office to do team building is by getting involved in philanthopic projects. If your whole organizatin gets together occasionally to work for a food bank or on a community improvement project, the usual business hierarchies take a back seat to the common goal. You're all working together on a project outside the scope of your normal company projects, and it's a great way for people to spend time together getting to know one another and refreshing that sense of being a team. And it's for a good cause!
